Tossa de Mar is a laid-back beach resort on the Costa Brava. It's very picturesque and enjoys a traditional Catalan way of life, lovely beaches and some great restaurants. Tossa de Mar holidays are well suited to families and couples who want to get away from it all for a while and relax.
Tossa de Mar has some really fine beaches. The Blue-Flag awarded main beach, Playa Grande, is a long, broad expanse of golden sands that slope gently into the warm, transparent waters of the Mediterranean. There are good facilities and plenty of sun beds and loungers where you can soak up the rays. There's plenty of bars and cafés where you can grab a bite to eat or enjoy a cocktail in between sunbathing sessions.
The waters are generally calm and safe for kids, but they can get a little choppy every now and again, although there's a lifeguard service. The beach can get quite busy in the summer, so if you'd prefer something a little quieter, a short walk down the coast brings you to several secluded little coves and bays.
There are also lots of water sports to enjoy on a Tossa de Mar holiday including windsurfing, jet skiing and much more. The crystal clear waters at Mar Menuda Beach are great for snorkelling or scuba diving and you'll be able to see an array of coral sea life and vibrant coral reef.
For a touch of culture on your holiday in Tossa de Mar, the resort is home to an excellent contemporary art museum. The atmospheric Old Town and well-preserved medieval walls are are also well worth a visit. Additionally, the magnificent city of Barcelona is just 25 miles down the coast to the south.
The warm summer nights in the Costa Brava make it a great place to head out in the evening to one of the many traditional Catalan seafront restaurants and authentic tapas bars. While the local food is the undoubted highlight, the choice of dining is varied and there really is something for every palate here. The nightlife here is pretty-laid back so if you're up for a lively night out, neighbouring Lloret de Mar is the place to go.
