Monastir/Skanes

This beachside suburb just along the coast from Monastir is a modern resort which cleverly combines an ancient medina and sleek new marina. There’s little need to stray far from the beach if you’re looking for relaxation and a sprinkling of watersports, but you should – Monastir is a spruced-up Tunisian city of immense charm, and excellent links onwards to the lively city of Sousse, along the coast. The town rotates around two obvious centres of attraction – the old town medina and the waterfront, where you’ll find the busy marina. Most attractions are clustered between the two.
